We have been working on the development of the Mighty 490 for the past eight years and Maicos in general for over 30 and in that time we have learned all the ins and out, the do's and don't and best damn way to build a Maico that wins.
We have had the likes of Bob Hannah, Jim Gibson, Micky Dymond, Gary Jones and others ride our bikes and give us input. Bob Hannah said "If I would have ridden one of these back in the day, I would have parked my works Yamaha." Pretty strong endorsement for someone who truly know what works and what doesn't.
What makes Vi. different when it comes to Maicos?
We realize that there are plenty of other shops out there that claim to be Maico specialist. Some only do Maico. We have never subscribed to the notion that being limited automatically makes you the best. Vi's owner, Rick Doughty have been riding, racing and wrenching on Maicos (as well as nearly every other brand) for 30+ years. His standards for performance, fit and finish are near fanatically. We are constantly updating and revisiting aspects of the bikes to improve the overall package. Power delivery, reliability, suspension, fuel systems, ignition, brakes, handling and of course appearance is all taken into consideration on each model Maico we offer products for.
In short, the difference between us and the other guys is that this is our full time job, not a hobby. We test more, evaluate closer and think more about our projects than anyone in the business.
PLUS WE ANSWER THE PHONE WHEN YOU CALL. Nothing is more frustrating than sending off your engine or suspension and then when it is seriously overdue you can't get anyone to answer the phone or call you back. Not at Vi.
